We had the pleasure of shooting aerial sequences with Assembly who were engaged by agency
String Theory to produce a Sci-Fi type video for Les Mills International.We shot a hero cliff shot as well as some other high-energy scenes. The director asked us at
pre-production if we could shoot at 85mm to create a more cinematic and high energy look & feel. The pressure was on as we had never shot at such a tight focal length.
The chase scenes were very technical for the pilot and camera operator being on such a tight lens. We had to modify our vibration isolation system and fabricate a remote focus adjustment to make it possible. The results were amazing as seen in the screen grabs below. The tight lens shots aren’t very aerial but more like a dolly in the sky adding another dynamic to the scenes.
